Aviv and I had the following conversation before school today.
Me: “Aviv, let’s not play in the puddles as you’ll get all wet. You can do it after school.”
Aviv: “No. I’m going to play in the puddles.”
Me:”Aviv, please don’t play in the puddles.”
Aviv: “No, I’m going to play in the puddles.”
Me: “Aviv, you are not going to play in the puddles.”
Aviv: “Oh, fine.”
I turn around and go in to get the umbrella to walk him to school. And, yep, you guessed it, I came out to find Aviv playing in the puddles. And I think to myself, I just spent this week blogging, podcasting and talking about saying NO, getting one's needs met and essentially playing in the puddles if that’s what you need to do.
The kid clearly listened to my podcast, literally told me NO multiple times and essentially said to me, “look dude. I said NO. This is what I need to do. Frankly, piss off cause these boots were made for jumping and that’s what I’m gonna do.”
And I think to myself, thatta boy. Get out there. Get your needs met. And never stop playing in the puddles for anyone if that’s what you need to do!
P.S. I also thought to myself - I’m done talking about NO and he’s banned from listening to my radio show!
Have a peaceful, restorative and puddle jumping fun weekend!
