End of Week Reflections: The Fires Rage On

What is to give light must endure burning.
— Viktor Frankl

IT’S BEEN A ROUGH WEEK HERE IN ISRAEL. FIRES HAVE BEEN RAGING AROUND THE COUNTRY.
LAST NIGHT THEY CAME TOO CLOSE TO OUR COMMUNITY AND HOME. IT’S BAD ENOUGH TO SEE THE DESTRUCTION THEY ARE BRINGING, HOWEVER, TO KNOW THAT THEY WERE DELIBERATELY SET TO CAUSE TERROR MAKES IT SO MUCH WORSE. IT IS AN ACT OF PURE EVIL - ATTEMPTING TO SEND HUMAN BEINGS UP IN FLAMES.
HOWEVER, TO SEE THE COUNTRY RALLY HAS BEEN AMAZING. IN MY SETTLEMENT, FOR EXAMPLE, MEN AND WOMEN CAME TOGETHER YESTERDAY TO PUT OUT A FIRE CLIMBING UP THE SIDE OF OUR MOUNTAIN. THE VOLUNTEERISM AND EFFORTS BY PROFESSIONALS IS ENOUGH TO RESTORE FAITH.
THESE FIRES SYMBOLIZE THE WORST OF WHAT HUMANITY BRINGS TO THIS WORLD. HOWEVER, THESE FIRES ALSO REMIND US THE BEST OF WHAT WE ARE CAPABLE OF ACHIEVING AS WELL. IN THE WORDS OF VIKTOR FRANKL, “WHAT IS TO GIVE LIGHT MUST ENDURE BURNING.”
ISRAEL HAS ENDURED TOO MUCH BURNING THIS WEEK, HOWEVER, IT HAS BEEN ONE MORE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE AN EVEN GREATER AMOUNT OF LIGHT TO THE WORLD.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE STILL IN HARMS WAY AS THE FIRES RAGE ON AS WELL AS THE LIVES OF ALL THOSE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO CONTINUE TO FIGHT.
YOU KEEP PRAYING.
THEY’LL KEEP FIGHTING.
THE TERRORISTS WILL KEEP LOSING.
AND WE WILL EVENTUALLY ILLUMINATE THIS DARKENED WORLD.
SHABBAT SHALOM. PEACEFUL SABBATHS. AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
