Defining Mindfulness

Defining Mindfulness.Baruch HaLevi

Recently I was asked to define what I mean when i talk about “mindfulness.” Instead of my definition, let’s hear it from Viktor Frankl, Holocaust survivor and father of Logo-therapy: “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our happiness.”

Mindfulness is “simply” living in that space between what happens to us and our response to it. You can’t determine what happens to you, and you can’t control where your path ultimately leads. But you can control that gap in the middle, that space between your ears - your response to what was and what is yet to be.

Pay attention to it.

Be mindful of it.

And master it.

That my friends is mindfulness and that it authentic power and why we are here!
